Parque Lage: Art, History and the Start of the Most Iconic Trail

With its stunning Roman-style mansion, Parque Lage unites art and the exuberance of the Atlantic Forest and is the starting point to Corcovado.

Parque Lage is one of the most poetic and romantic settings in Rio. Located in the Jardim Botânico neighborhood, the park is famous for its stunning Roman-style mansion, featuring the iconic central pool that reflects the image of Christ the Redeemer high above. It's a place where art (housing the School of Visual Arts) and history meet the lush Atlantic Forest.

However, beyond a peaceful stroll through the geometric gardens and artificial caves, Parque Lage is the starting point for the city's most classic and challenging trail: the climb to Christ the Redeemer (Corcovado Mountain).

The trail that starts at the back of the park is not for the faint of heart. Lasting 2 to 3 hours, the path is extremely steep, requiring stamina, strength, and plenty of water. The route goes through dense forest, crossing old train lines and passing by small waterfalls. The reward? Reaching the feet of one of the Seven Wonders of the World on your own two feet.

Cariocando Tip: If you decide to tackle the Corcovado trail, go in a group, wear appropriate trekking shoes, and start very early to avoid the strong midday sun. Remember that the final access to Christ the Redeemer requires an admission fee at the top.
