An oriental-style bamboo and concrete pavilion offering one of the most award-winning panoramic views of Rio de Janeiro.
Nestled in Alto da Boa Vista, inside the Tijuca National Park, Vista Chinesa (Chinese View) is one of those monuments that transports us to another dimension. Built in the early 20th century as a tribute to the Chinese immigrants who brought tea cultivation to Brazil, this oriental-style bamboo and concrete pavilion offers one of Rio de Janeiro's most award-winning panoramic views.
Getting there can be a sporting challenge or a pleasant car ride. The Vista Chinesa Road is steep and winding, making it one of the favorite and most challenging routes for Rio's cyclists and runners.
When you reach the Chinese pagoda, the effort (or the trip) is rewarded with a perfect visual framing: the oriental structure in the foreground, flanked by the green forest, and in the background, in magical alignment, Christ the Redeemer, Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, Sugarloaf Mountain, and the South Zone beaches.
Cariocando Tip: Vista Chinesa is a place of contemplation. Sunrise here is magical, with the fog slowly dissipating over the Lagoon. As the road passes through dense forest, avoid visiting the site after dark due to lack of lighting and safety.
